Alexis’s Adaptive Jacket

For the Runway of Dreams annual adaptive fashion show, I led a design team to create this adaptive jacket for Alexis, a model with significant dressing needs. Alexis has never had a jacket with buttons due to difficulty in aligning buttons and fine motor skills. Additionally, she wanted a professional looking jacket for her personal business endeavors.

The final design features magnetic clasps sewn onto the inside of the jacket, while decorative buttons line the outside. To combat Alexis’s difficult with aligning buttons, only 3 magnets are used on the inside and spaced far apart. After testing with Alexis, we found this setup maximized security of the jacket while still making dressing as easy as possible. The jacket also features inner satin lining to combat material sensitivity.
